Sign 4 Me iPad app now works with Siri Speech Recognition!

Sign 4 Me is a valuable tool for learning sign language. It is the sole iPad app that employs a full-body avatar to provide sign language instruction in 3D. The 3D character allows for zooming in or out and rotation, offering optimal views of each sign. Users have control over the character's placement, a unique feature not found elsewhere.

The comprehensive library comprises over 11,500 words, including sentences, phrases, words, and the alphabet. Users with iPad models equipped with Apple’s Siri Speech Recognition can benefit from Sign 4 Me's translation of spoken words into Signed English. All entries are saved in the History section for easy retrieval, organization by date or alphabetically, and removal.

Control functionalities enable users to adjust signing speed, loop features, and position the character to the default "home" location.

Vcom3D, the original developer of SigningAvatar® sign language software featuring 3D characters, provides an opportunity to learn sign language tailored to individual communication needs. The app is particularly useful for those interacting with Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing individuals. Playback is presented in Signed English to assist hearing individuals in learning basic signing.

Utilizing the expertise of an ASL team comprising eight Deaf professionals ensures accurate ASL signs based on their native knowledge of sign language.

Note on Signed English VS. ASL – Sign 4 Me includes ASL hand signs in English word order. While Signed English and ASL have distinct grammatical structures, the app aligns with the English sentence word order. As research continues on mapping English grammar to ASL structure, users are encouraged to input text in ASL word order if desired.

Helpful Tips:

• To grasp sign reproduction techniques effectively, adjust signing speed, zoom, and rotate the character for optimal visibility of handshape and movement, especially helpful for finger spelling.
• To learn the alphabet, enter consecutive letters without spaces (e.g., ABCDE), observing how each letter sign is displayed by the character.

3D Controls:

• Zoom in - Spread two fingers across the screen.
• Zoom out - Bring two fingers together.
• Rotate - Swipe with one finger.
• Pan - Use two fingers to grab and move the character.

2D Controls:

• Delete All - Utilize the trashcan in History to delete all entries.
• Delete One Line - Swipe across a line and tap Delete when prompted.

Siri Speech Recognition Control:

• To use Siri Speech Recognition within Sign 4 Me app, tap the text box, access your digital keyboard featuring a microphone icon, speak into your iPad, and press "Done" for processing.
